HOMES & LAND is a personal rather than commercial site for keeping track of my studies into going OFF THE GRID, by using clean and green, renewable energy sources, and collecting rainwater.
THE REALITIES and THE STARTING POINT
Here at Homes and Land, I am really interested in going OFF THE GRID with either solar energy or wind energy or both. I’m also interested in perpetual energy generators such as unity or overunity power generation, and would like to start collecting and using rainwater.
If money was no object I would have installed solar power and wind power years ago. Back in the 1970’s I took courses in environmental studies as part of my biology major. If you don’t count my love of sailboats, that’s when I first started studying about wind energy, and actually designed a wind turbine. Of course, as a college student, lack of financing put a damper on things. Then in the 1980’s, I went from biology major to computer sciences. Now, I am at that point where I have a small house and am still sick of paying a huge chunk of money to the electric company. So, I have good sciences backgrounds, but I never put the same kind of serious study into electricity.
In chemistry we learn of positive and negative ions, and electrons. Also, if you take electrical power and have it go into an electrical motor, you can get the motor to spin and then convert that to mechanical energy, and we are able to do the reverse. So, a realistic look at my starting point is very expert level computer science, along with more than a minimum of basic knowledge of experiments and sciences: chemistry, physics, and mechanics, but I am very lacking in terms of studies of electricity, and very little finances, and a healthy motivation level. Now, I want to take that basic knowledge and some materials and mechanisms, and combine all that and, with realistic financing get some power that is OFF THE GRID.
Those tiny solar lamps that we use to light up our walkways and gardens are very inspirational, as are the solar calculators and other small power consumption items such as solar powered calculators. Inspiration is an awesome motivator, as is necessity. The necessity for most of us is that 1. commercial electricity is expensive, and 2. we realize we MUST go to clean, renewable energy sources.
So, this is going to be a personal web site to keep track of things as I learn them. While I’m at it, I’m going to also look into using rainwater barrels because I am very dissatisfied with the quality of water that flows from the water company into my house.
If the site grows, I have a slew of computer solutions to help it expand, but for now it’s okay to keep it simple.
